About Us
SpeechWorks has been in existence for more than ten years and provides specialized diagnostic and treatment services to children and adults with communication disorders. The company is also responsible for the supervision of speech-language pathologists meeting registration requirements to practice in Manitoba.
SpeechWorks has received a number of grants over the years from agencies such as the Workers Compensation Board and the Winnipeg Foundation. These grants have allowed partnering with organizations including the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba, the Parkinson Society Manitoba and the Manitoba Brain Injury Association.
Allison Baird
Allison Baird is a speech-language pathologist who has worked as a therapist, manager and researcher. She has been certified by the
Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA-ACOA), the American Association of
Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ASHA), and, most recently, by the Health Professions Council
for the United Kingdom. She is also registered with the Manitoba Speech and Hearing Association (MSHA). Allison has
been nominated for the YMCA-YWCA Woman of Distinction Award and is the past president of the Manitoba Speech and Hearing Association.
Allison has experience as a therapist with adults in hospital and with children with severe developmental delays and disorders. She has presented papers and workshops at Provincial, National and International conferences and she has instructed at the University of Manitoba. She has supervised almost 40 graduate students and young speech language pathologists plus countless volunteers. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of North Dakota and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Brandon University.
